It’s the weekend !! So my plans to lie in the sun for a couple of hours have been snookered by the torrential rain. Thank God as it is needed. A  monitoring and evaluation visit to Ngumbe school in rural Blantyre this morning. Visited Isaac in standard 7 to observe his social studies lesson on the problems facing farmers. I am now going to do my homework set to the class on how can we improve the sustainability of farming further. Might need to google it!!!!

We then spent the afternoon visiting Malala school it felt like the middle of nowhere. The head teacher there is Dorica who will be visiting Glasgow later in the year as the team leader of Malawian MLOLs. Really looking forward to seeing her there.

Later this afternoon I went with the team on an emotional trip to Chigumukire Primary School to visit  the Mary’s Meals kitchen which had been built in memory of Kate O’Donnell, a great colleague and friend at St Blane’s Primary School. The head teacher Christina who has only been there for 5 years was extremely welcoming and hospitable. I could not believe the coincidence that the  school is the base location for Harry our Primary Education Advisor on the team with us here this week. I am delighted to have been able to visit and share my memories of Kate a great teacher and friend. A few tears this afternoon!

This evening we had a lovely meal at the house of Mercy and Mr Nhlema, a big thanks for your hospitality and looking after us.

Signing off now until Monday.
