Girls into Education

In March 2013, there were a small group of girls attending Stella Maris Secondary School in Blantyre, Malawi who no longer had the funds to stay in school and were sent home.

The girls came from very poor families or were orphans.

For the last two years, we have sponsored between 12 to 15 girls each year chosen by the school, who are in need of the sponsorship to stay in education.

Individuals or schools can donate money to cover the girls’ school fees, accommodation and uniform.

We know from research that the more educated women are in a developing country the more sustainable the country will become.

We are committed to continuing this support to make a difference to girls.

MLOL Libraries

MLOL is helping to towards improved literacy in our Malawian partner schools by establishing libraries – with money raised by schools and individuals in Glasgow.

The initial sponsorship of £500 pays for books, material and a sewing machine – this is to make book bags for the children to take their books home in.

The mothers’ group at the school make the bags and the sewing machine is also utilised in some of our schools to make school uniforms – for the needy and also at a cost for those who can afford to pay – raising valuable funds for the school community.
