Back to Blantyre Rural today, at Nankumba. It was very hot today, training in 26 degrees! But what a group they were! Amazing engagement with active learning and effective questioning. Robyn inspired everyone with how to set up an effective library, while I made everyone move, playing games and singing songs.
Today we played a game outside to get there we sang “follow my leader” – To see 40 adults giving it there all and turning into a dance circle was amazing and then we were surrounded by children who also wanted to join! It was a new adaptation to the training but it’s now staying all week! We all need active learning in our lives.
I’m loving every minute of sharing good practise and to get back to the roots of effective learning and teaching has been amazing! We also got back into the classes (one of my favourite parts of the day) and today we saw Standard 3 and Standard 4. Amazing examples of group learning and learner engagement!
I’m always amazed at how the teachers in the rural schools remain so positive, empowering and passionate given circumstances of long distances for travel and challenging classroom settings. Today watching the standard 3 teacher, I was blown away but how engaging and exciting her lesson was.
Every child in the room felt valued, wanted and special and to be able to do that with 98 children is inspiring. I have learned so many positive engaging praise songs that I am definitely taking back with me. Every part of me would love to stay and experience the teaching of large classes and work with teachers to be able to develop positive and progressive learning together to support both of our career progression.
Todays massive take away for teachers was how to effectively question our children and so many took home my phrase “Tell me and I’ll forget, but Show me and I’ll remember” and said they were off to implement this back at school. To know that we have provided that insight is exceptionally humbling and I feel a lot of pride ??
