Today was such an exciting day - this morning I got to take the letters from our Primary 4 learners from Riverbank and deliver them to standard 4 children of Limbe Primary, Malawi.
Across the last month the primary 4s have all learned about the different aspects of Malawi life and they all wrote pen pal letters for learners in Malawi. Ruth, a PEA, from Blantyre Urban, ensured that we had schools to link in with which was amazing and Tendai, Head from Limbe Primary was amazing at organising our visit.
We went into the Standard 4 classroom and we were greeted with songs and smiles. The children were so delighted to receive their letters, as was their teacher. I was absolutely blown away, as by the end of the day, all the children had written a reply to the P4s! I cannot wait to take these letters home with me and deliver them on Monday! To be able to connect communities and countries across the world is so special!
Then we were back at Blantyre Girls in Blantyre Urban for teacher training. Going back somewhere familiar, you start to feel part of the community. The management staff are so welcoming and kind and nothing is too much trouble! However, once set up was complete, we went to get fresh air and the standard 1 class we saw the first day we were there, clocked us and came charging out of their classroom! However the teacher is so lovely and she came and the ant songs with us before training – think we have made friends for life.
Then after training, it was time to visit Steka orphanage in Blantyre. Run by GodKnows and his wife, the orphanage houses 110 children of all ages. To hear the background stories of these children was really hard to hear but to see the incredible work GodKnows does and the care he has for the children is unbelievable. He calls them all his ‘kids’ they call them mumma and dad. Some people in this world are living saints and GodKnows is absolutely that man! To allow children to thrive, graduate and go through schooling all because he took them in and supported them is beyond comprehension! Let alone supporting the men of Malawi with mental health issues.
This man is exceptionally special and when we are home we will look to fundraise to support them. It was hard hitting but incredible to see the magic of this man.
