Another good day today- lots of lessons learned en route to and back from Nayizi.

We learned that many of the young bricklayers have learned their trade themselves as a result of not getting into a secondary school. I managed to take some photos.

We also saw a man using a hammer to straighten out corrugated iron sheets. Justin told us how these are used to make pots and pans. The school bell is an old wheel that is struck to signal the start and end of breaks- Malawian people really do reduce, reuse, recycle EVERYTHING- we could learn so much from them!

We also saw a very unwell man being brought down the road by two other men, who were carrying him. He looked very sick and it the reality of the fragility of life dawned on me. Malawian people work so hard for the things we take for granted.

In my class, it was very warm with 169 pupils seated inside. As the school is so large, there was noise from both inside and outside the classroom. At points, you could hear a pin drop!

It was really good to get to know a few of the teachers- I mostly worked with Annie today, who told me about her daily commute to work by foot- she walks 1km to and from work daily. Her colleague (and Bill's), Serah, walks 10km to and 10km from work each day- it takes her up to two hours each day and she told me how she walks home as quickly as she can from school- to the other side of the mountains!!- to see her grandchild before she goes to bed.

During our 15 minute tea break, we went a walk to the market- where pupils who have money can buy snacks/ fruit etc. Slightly different to our tuck shops...

I truly admire the teachers here and their commitment to their pupils.
